Description

Each bite crackles with a seasoned breadcrumb shell that shatters to reveal warm, stringy mozzarella. A quick dip in zesty marinara heightens the savory crunch. Ready in under an hour, these snacks vanish fast.

Ingredients

  • 12 mozzarella cheese sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 cups vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Place mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for 30 minutes.
  2. In a bowl whisk together eggs and milk until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl combine flour, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Pour breadcrumbs into a third shallow dish.
  5. Dredge each frozen cheese stick first in the seasoned flour, then in the egg mixture, and finally in the breadcrumbs. For extra crunch, repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating.
  6. Return coated sticks to the freezer for 15–20 minutes to set the breading.
  7. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  8. Fry the cheese sticks in batches for 1–2 minutes until golden brown, turning gently to brown all sides.
  9. Use a slotted spoon to transfer fried sticks to a paper towel–lined plate to drain excess oil.

Notes

  • For best results use low-moisture mozzarella to prevent excessive melting.
  • Double-coating with egg and breadcrumbs yields extra crispiness.
  • Keep cheese sticks frozen before frying to help them hold their shape.
  • Serve immediately with marinara sauce or ranch dressing for dipping.
