Description
Melty Gouda mingles with crisp apple slices and smoky bacon, all hugged by butter-toasted sourdough. A drizzle of honey and tangy Dijon cut through the richness, making each bite crunchy, creamy, and perfectly balanced.
Ingredients
- 4 slices bacon
- 2 tbsp butter softened
- 4 slices sourdough bread
- 4 oz gouda cheese thinly sliced
- 1 medium Honeycrisp apple thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp honey
Instructions
- Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
- Cook bacon in the skillet until crisp, about 5–7 minutes, then transfer to paper towels to drain.
- Spread butter on one side of each bread slice and spread Dijon mustard on the unbuttered side of two slices.
- Layer gouda cheese, apple slices, and cooked bacon on the mustard-coated slices.
- Drizzle honey evenly over the apple slices.
- Top with the remaining bread slices, buttered side facing out.
- Place sandwiches in the skillet and cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt, about 3–4 minutes per side.
- Remove from heat, let rest for 1 minute, then slice in half and serve warm.
Notes
- For a nuttier flavor, swap sourdough for multigrain bread.
- Sharp cheddar can be used if gouda is unavailable.
- Press sandwiches gently with a spatula while cooking for even grilling.
- Best enjoyed immediately to preserve crispiness and melted cheese.
