Description

Coated in seasoned flour and double-dipped for extra crunch, these mozzarella sticks turn golden and crispy on the outside. Bite in to unleash a stretch of molten cheese that pairs perfectly with warm marinara or your go-to dipping sauce.

Ingredients

  • 12 sticks mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 cups vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. If desired, cut the mozzarella sticks in half for bite-sized pieces.
  2. In a shallow bowl, mix flour, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. In a second bowl, whisk eggs and water until well combined.
  4. Place breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
  5. Coat each cheese stick in the flour mixture, then dip into the egg wash, and press into the breadcrumbs to fully cover.
  6. For extra crispiness, repeat the egg wash and breadcrumb coating a second time.
  7. Arrange the coated sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to help the coating adhere.
  8. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium heat until it reaches 350°F.
  9. Fry the mozzarella sticks in small batches for 1 to 2 minutes, turning gently, until golden brown.
  10. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  11. Serve immediately with warm marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Use low-moisture mozzarella for the best results
  • Make sure the oil is hot enough to prevent cheese from leaking
  • For a lighter version, bake at 425°F for 8 to 10 minutes instead of frying
  • Leftover frozen sticks can be stored in the freezer for up to one month before cooking
